For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this. Isaiah 9:6-7

He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.  Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:3-5

As we journey through this Holy Week, we will likely contemplate the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf. Re-living His trial and crucifixion may cause us grief and anguish, but we can rejoice in the knowledge that He arose victorious and sealed the deal! We are privileged to be joint-heirs and this is all because of the blood of Jesus Christ. How great is our God!!

The prophet Isaiah foretold the story of His birth and responsibilities and later gave us great details of the horrible suffering He would endure to bring us freedom.  The unkind and unfair treatment He received was for our benefit … He gave us the opportunity of eternal life.

Another ‘benefit’ we have received is the opportunity to share the love of Christ with others. We can show those around us that we have a relationship with Him and that it is also possible for them to know Him as Lord and Saviour.  Many still walk around with their hurt and frustration, totally unaware that “He has borne all our sorrows,” and that His completed work at Calvary covered every situation they would ever face.

If you have not had the experience of truly celebrating in the freedom He has brought us, how about creating a special Easter memory?  Would you consider giving Him your life today?

May the risen Christ be seen in and through you as you celebrate the eternal Gift this Easter season.

Inventory/Introspection: What does Easter look like in my home?  Is He the center of our celebrations?

Personal Application: Although Easter is celebrated once per year, I can bring the story of redemption to others any time of year.  Who is the one person I can share the true story of Easter with this week?

Father, we are thankful for the Sacrifice that brought us freedom. We are thankful that the death and resurrection of Jesus covered all our sins … please forgive us for the times we take this for granted.

We are thankful that we know You and that You are the center of our lives. As we go about our daily wanderings, help us to keep our eyes and ears open for the opportunities You give us to share the true story of Easter with those we meet.

May the risen Christ be evident in our lives always.
